NORTH CANTON

Community members are invited to Hoover High School to see how the district has used a $4.6 million grant from the state, according to a news release.

North Canton City Schools officials will host an open house from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday October 9th at the high school, 525 Seventh St. NE.

The district received a competitive Straight A Fund grant from the state in 2013 to promote technology use in the classroom and active learning. The changes were implemented during the summer and debuted when students returned to school in August.

Some of the features of “Viking 21” include:

n Libraries that have distance-learning classrooms, video-creation stations and robotics kits

n A fabrication lab that has engineering equipment, such as a 3-D printer, a laser engraver and a CNC router

n Classrooms with moveable furniture and technology white boards

Also as part of the project, students in the district will be filming the roll-out of the new equipment and teaching styles to share with other districts in the state.
